KAIST's Margin of Excellence
|

Over the past 37 years, KAIST has developed into one of the world¡¯s most outstanding research universities in the fields of science, technology, and management. We have excellent and driven students, accomplished and committed professors, state-of-the-art facilities, and enjoy the support and admiration of the Korean people.

Students' Excellence
KAIST undergraduates may be on par with the best in the world. Seventy percent come from "Science High Schools" and schools for gifted students. These schools collectively produce about 1,800 graduates a year. Each one of these schools accepts about 100 students a year per school out of 600,000 middle school graduates.

Faculty Excellence
KAIST has outstanding professors whose academic authority is recognized not only in Korea but also in the whole world. KAIST professors won 10 of the 18 National Engineering Prizes. The number of papers written by KAIST professors is on par with those of MIT. A large number of patents have been granted to KAIST professors. The majority of the faculty received their PhDs from the US.

Graduates' Excellence
KAIST graduates are superbly performing roles as leaders in the areas of business, education, economy and culture. Twenty-five percent of Samsung Electronics PhDs are KAIST graduates. More than 10% of professors in Korea are KAIST PhDs. Moreover, KAIST graduates are now professors in other countries, including MIT, Harvard, NTU, etc.

Academic & Research Excellence
KAIST offers top-notch undergraduate and graduate programs designed to cultivate the world¡¯s best leaders. KAIST ranked the highest in the National University Assessment 2006 conducted by Joongang Ilbo. In particular, the number of papers published in SCI journals and patents obtained by professors are the highest among all Korean universities.

The Spirit of KAIST
A large portion of KAIST¡¯s finances is funded by taxpayers¡¯ money. KAIST has been receiving great interest and encouragement from the public, and we try our utmost to return the favor and love to the citizens by contributing to the Korean economy.
KAIST¡¯s mission is to support the Science and Research Complex and the Daejeon community, where dozens of companies and government-funded research centers are concentrated, and to contribute to Korea and mankind with its advanced scientific and technological prowess.
All members of the KAIST community learn to demonstrate the highest ethical standards. We honor truth, trust one another, and respect the privacy and integrity of others. Without such basic human decency, KAIST cannot function as a community of scholars and teachers, nor can we effectively prepare our graduates to be future leaders of society. |
