At CXRC, phase-stabilized high-power femtosecond lasers with duration of few optical cycles have been constructed, and coherent x-ray sources based on high harmonic generation are being developed. The explorations of ultrafast phenomena using femtosecond laser pulse and attosecond harmonic pulse and of soft x-ray interferometry/holography using harmonic beams are intensively pursued.

We have been one of the foremost research groups on optical fiber communication devices and sensor systems such as fiber gyroscopes, hydrophone arrays, fiber lasers, wavelength and modal filters, and fiber acousto-optic devices. Our recent research interests also include photonic crystal fibers and quantum cryptography.
