Professor Sung-Ju Lee of KAIST’s School of Computing received the Best Paper Award at the 35th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS), organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), on July 2, 2015.

The ICDCS, established in 1979, is the most prestigious conference in the field of distributed computing systems. As this year’s conference, researchers submitted 543 papers with subjects ranging from the Cloud, data center, distributed operating systems, algorithm theories, and internet security; of these, 70 were selected for publication, and one paper received the award for Best Paper.

Professor Lee’s paper addresses the technology which permits computers to analyze autonomously and discover several distributed servers, and makes it possible to disperse malignant codes by computer criminals, from several different perspectives. The research team collaborated with Texas A&M University, USA; Symantec, an American technology company; and the University of Milan, Italy. Professor Lee's work was acknowledged for addressing real network data and for the high verification ability of the technology he published.

Professor Lee said, “This award means much more to me since the research was a collaboration with network and security experts. Our technology will be useful for real-life internet security, companies, schools, and internet providers.”
